St Ronan's Border Games Songs And Music

The town of St. Ronan’s with its beautiful countryside and old traditions has inspired many people to put pen to paper and write songs and poems. St. Ronan’s Border Games and Cleikum Ceremonies have three official songs.
Both On, St. Ronan’s! and Raise High the Banner were written especially for the first Cleikum Ceremonies in 1901 and have been used ever since, with only the tune to Raise High the Banner being altered at a later date. St. Ronan A.D. 737 was a poem written by George Hope Tait originally entitled, The Legend of St. Ronan. James Mercer later set it to music and, like the others, it is used during the Cleikum Ceremonies.
The Cleikum Choir has been in existence for many years and leads the singing during all the ceremonies. However, the songs can be heard wherever St. Ronanites gather, be it Games Week or New Year.
Innerleithen is fortunate to have two excellent bands – St. Ronan’s Silver Band and Innerleithen Pipe Band – and both play their full part during Games Week
